BIO
Katerina Murysina is a visual artist born in Saint Petersburg, Russia. She currently lives and works in Berlin, Germany.
She studied design, animation, and illustration. Until 2021, she worked at the intersection of design and art — creating art objects and installations, as well as working in illustration. She is now focused on her independent artistic practice, working primarily with drawing and oil painting.
Her artistic practice arises from the experience of restriction and loss of freedom, which has repeatedly manifested in her life — from political tragedies and emigration to deeply personal experiences of loss and illness. She explores themes of loss, love, and memory through the lens of freedom. Murysina engages with images of nature and animals, which fascinate her as examples of pure existence unbound by human cultural and social constructs. Through the dialogue between these natural forms and the human condition, she seeks to uncover the raw essence of the existential states that define human life.
